An experimental MkDocs plugin and helper script that builds your MkDocs site and runs an MCP server to expose documentation to MCP clients.
Serve and query a locally built MkDocs documentation site over MCP to provide contextual help and answers.
Access source Markdown (or converted HTML-to-Markdown) from an MkDocs project with configurable naming and aggregation options.
Integrate MkDocs-hosted docs into desktop assistants or workflows (example: Claude Desktop via WSL) for interactive documentation lookup.
mkdocs-mcp is a proof-of-concept plugin and CLI wrapper that integrates an MCP server into the MkDocs workflow. Because MkDocs' native serve command cannot be overridden, the project provides a mkdocs_mcp script to build the site and launch an MCP server, with options to point to a MkDocs project path via CLI or environment variable. It supports configurable naming styles, preference for source Markdown vs converting HTML back to Markdown, and options to combine pages by folder or into a single file. The project uses uv for dependency management and includes guidance for using the MCP server with tools like Claude Desktop and WSL.
